Real Time Information (RTI)

Real Time Information means that employers and pension providers tell HMRC about PAYE payments at the time they are made as part of their payroll process. Payroll software will collect the necessary information and send it to HMRC online." HM Revenue & Customs

What is PAYE RTI?

RTI will ensure that the PAYE system meets the needs of the 21st century and will make it easier for employers, pension providers and HMRC to administer PAYE. Under RTI, employers and pension providers will tell HMRC about PAYE payments at the time they are made - as opposed to how it is done today, at the end of the financial year.

With the HMRC RTI system, employers are required to send data about PAYE, NIC and student loans every time they pay an employee, rather than just once a year with the end-of-year return. Payroll software will collect the necessary information and send it to HMRC online. All Pegasus payroll solutions* cater for RTI.

Operating PAYE in real time

Real Time Information affects the procedures for reporting individuals' earnings and pension and annuity payments, recording new starters and leavers and processing the tax year-end:

  • Information about all earnings and deductions must be submitted to HMRC for each pay period rather than at the end of the tax year.

  • Employees who leave must still be given a P45 form but employers must not submit P45 or P46 returns to HMRC; starter and leaver information must be included when necessary with a pay period's Full Payment Submission (FPS).

  • P35 (Employer Annual Return) and P14 (End of Year Summaries) will not be used at the 2013/14 year-end. Employees must still be given their P60.

Why do we need RTI?

One reason for introducing RTI is to support the introduction of the Government‘s Universal Credit in 2013. Universal Credit will reform the state benefits system by simplifying and streamlining benefits into one payment whilst reducing fraud and ensuring people receive the benefit payments they are entitled to.

RTI will provide the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) with up-to-date information about a claimant’s employment income, enabling them to calculate Universal Credit payments without the need for claimants to supply employment or pension income information.

Online Filing Manager (OFM)

Online filing is more efficient and convenient than paper filing, and submitting your Annual Returns and PAYE in-year returns using Pegasus Online Filing Manager makes it even easier.

Pegasus Online Filing Manager comes as standard with Opera 3 Payroll & HR. It's intuitive, accurate and uses the information already generated via normal payroll processing, removing the need to re-key data. It was the first professional application to gain HMRC approval for verifying and electronically submitting P14 and P35 information. The Pegasus Online Filing Manager caters for the submission of the VAT 100 Return to HMRC. It is now a requirement for most companies to submit their annual P14 and P35 online.

Auto Enrolment & Pension Integration

Workplace pension law has changed. Auto enrolment is a government initiative designed to help people save for their retirement, which means every employer in the UK has a duty to enrol their employees into a pension scheme and contribute towards it (even those employing seasonal workers).

  • Opera 3 Payroll caters for auto enrolment as standard

  • It integrates with  NEST Pensions and NOW: Pensions  so you can send contributions and information to either pension scheme electronically

  • It's HMRC RTI and PAYE recognised for extra peace of mind

  • It can be fully integrated with other Opera 3 applications, eliminating the need to run separate systems. Alternatively it can be purchased as a stand alone solution

  • Add employees and companies at no extra cost, ideal for growing businesses

NEST and NOW Integration

NEST Pensions (National Employment Savings Trust) and NOW: Pensions are cost effective pension schemes that are available for any employer to meet their new duties. Integration with these schemes is an optional feature of auto enrolment and allows seamless linking to the NEST and NOW: Pensions online portals.

Email Payslips

Opera 3 allows the flexibility of marking individual employees as receiving payslips and P60s by e-mail or printed. E-mailing payslips will make your payroll run as easy as pressing a button: Opera 3 generates PDFs of the payslips or P60s for the employees you select and the server handles sending the e-mails in the background, so you can continue to process without disruption.
